Acceptable Use Policy
This Acceptable Use Policy sets out how you may use Hostwoody hosting services. It supplements our Terms and Conditions, and by using our services you agree to follow it. To report spam or abuse, email support@hostwoody.uk.
1. Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to everyone who uses hosting services provided by Sky Web, trading as Hostwoody. You must not allow a third party to use your services unless you are authorised to do so, and you are responsible for anyone who uses your account complying with this policy.
2. Fair resource usage
Shared hosting provides space on our platform to publish websites. "Unlimited" server space and bandwidth refer to normal website use and are subject to the following limits:
- For websites that let visitors download video, audio or other large files, we may apply a bandwidth limit of 250 GB per calendar month. Normal website traffic is not affected.
- Each MySQL database is limited to 1 GB in size. We will contact you if a database reaches this limit.
- You may not use more than 10% of the platform’s processing capacity, for example through intensive scripts, FTP, PHP or HTTP operations.
- Mailboxes that have not been accessed for 100 consecutive days may be deleted automatically.
On shared hosting (not your own virtual private server) you may not:
- run stand-alone, unattended server processes or daemons
- run web spiders or indexers
- run software that connects to Internet Relay Chat (IRC) networks
- run BitTorrent applications, trackers or clients, or host torrent files
- take part in file-sharing or peer-to-peer activity
- run game servers
- run scheduled tasks other than those set up through the control panel
- give away web space under a domain
- operate a proxy website or service
- use your hosting as a remote file host for other websites
- run self-hosted file sync or cloud storage services such as ownCloud
3. Storage and backups
Hosting space is for publishing websites, not for offsite backups or file storage. Files you upload should be accessible on the web unless they are needed for your website to work; we may delete files that are neither.
Although we make every effort to keep data secure and provide backup tools, we do not guarantee data integrity or retention. You are responsible for keeping independent backups of your content and databases.
If you are a reseller customer and deactivate a hosting package, it may be deleted automatically after 50 days. Please remove files and packages you no longer need.
4. Search engines
Websites on our servers are visible to search engines unless you prevent it. If you optimise your site for search, you must follow the published guidelines of Google, Bing and other major search engines.
5. Prohibited uses
You may use our services only for lawful purposes. You must not use them:
- in any way that breaches local, national or international law or regulation
- in any way that is unlawful or fraudulent, or has an unlawful or fraudulent purpose or effect
- to harm or attempt to harm children in any way
- to send, receive, upload, download or use material that does not meet our content standards
- to send or arrange unsolicited advertising or promotional material (spam)
- to transmit viruses, trojans, worms, spyware or any other harmful code
- to access without authority, interfere with, damage or disrupt our services, equipment, networks or software, or those of anyone else
6. Content standards
These standards apply to all material hosted through our services. Material must be accurate where it states facts, genuinely held where it states opinions, and comply with the law of India, the United Kingdom (where our servers are located) and any country from which it is posted. Material must not:
- be defamatory, obscene, offensive, hateful or inflammatory
- contain pornography
- promote violence or illegal activity
- promote discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age
- infringe any copyright, database right or trade mark
- be likely to deceive anyone, or impersonate any person or misrepresent your identity
- breach a legal duty owed to someone else, such as confidentiality
- be threatening, abusive, invade privacy, or be likely to harass, upset, embarrass or alarm anyone
- give the impression that it comes from us when it does not
7. Zero-tolerance spam policy
- We do not tolerate unsolicited bulk email or spam. We may terminate any account used to send spam, with or without notice.
- Websites advertised through spam — by email, messaging, fax, phone, post or newsgroups — may not be hosted on our servers.
- Any account that causes our IP addresses to be blacklisted will be suspended or terminated immediately.
- We may require changes to, or disable, any website, account, database or component that does not comply with this policy.
- We may charge the account holder a clean-up fee and any costs of blacklist removal.
8. Database and server performance
Database use is subject to fair use. Excessive queries that affect server performance may lead to limits on your account, and we may optimise database structures to protect overall performance. You must use server resources efficiently; resource-intensive scripts or processes that could affect normal operation are not allowed without our prior written consent.
9. Suspension and termination
We decide, acting reasonably, whether this policy has been breached. A breach is a material breach of our Terms and Conditions and may lead us to take any of the following actions:
- immediate, temporary or permanent withdrawal of your right to use our services
- immediate, temporary or permanent removal of material you have uploaded
- issuing you with a warning
- legal proceedings to recover our costs resulting from the breach, including reasonable administrative and legal costs
- further legal action against you
- disclosing information to law enforcement authorities where we reasonably consider it necessary
10. Changes to this policy
We may revise this policy at any time by updating this page. The current version applies to your use of our services, so please check it from time to time.
